Summary: Tremendous Help
Comment: This book has been a tremendous help in learning how to use Final Cut Express 4. The lessons in the book step you through the ins and outs of video editing. It is very helpful in leading you through various ways to perform functions, and identifying many keyboard shortcuts. It would have been much more difficult to learn the program by just using the program's User Manual.

Summary: Excellent step by step tool for learning FCE 4!
Comment: Unlike other books (e.g. the one by Brenneis), this book takes you step by step into the intricacies of FCE 4. Weynand uses sample problems and detailed instructions to get you used to using FCE's many, many tools and shortcuts. It is definitely NOT just a restatement of the FCE manual! Before I got this book, I was ready to give up and go back to my ULead program!

Summary: Great Book for a Great Program
Comment: Diana Weynand has created a wonderful course that takes you from the very basics of moving files around on your Mac to creating very polished complete videos. I'm on my second reading and I plan to go back for a third look because there's just so much information transmitted. If you want to start making your own home videos you should definitely pick up this book.

Summary: The author knows how to teach.
Comment:
I read a lot of software manuals, and I'm very picky. Many authors seem to know their subject, but not necessarily how to transmit their knowledge to neophytes. Diana Weynand is first-rate at understanding the mindset of the beginner, and at leading the student by the hand in a way that makes the material seem self-evident. She'll sometimes direct you to do something not-quite-correctly, so that she can then point to the error and say, in effect, "See what happens when you do that?" The exercises she presents in each chapter are superb. I learned the program thoroughly.
