Summary: Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus
Comment: Conclusion first: I really like this video authoring software. I own Roxio 9, Sonic 6, the PC came with Movie Maker and I by far like Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus the best. I have an ATI HDTV Wonder card in my computer and like to capture off-the-air HD programs. I bought Ulead VideoStudio in order to burn HD DVD format video to a standard DVD. This feature works very well. It gives you the choice of burning to 30G HD DVD, 15G HD DVD, 8.5G dual layer DVD or 4.7G single layer DVD. You can select up to 1920 x 1080 output. I have been getting around 30 minutes onto a 4.7G single layer DVD-R. This is great for making high definition home movies. Even though my Toshiba HD DVD player is now obsolete, I will be making HD movies that will play on it well into the future. Not to mention that DVD-R media is dirt cheap.
Editing HD content is very processor intensive. However Ulead Studio 11 Plus has a Proxy feature that makes timeline editing very quick and precise. I could go on and on about the cool features. Go to their website and read about it in detail.
Almost forgot, I downloaded the free update to Ulead Studio 11.5 Plus. Even better.

Summary: Feature full, shoddy performance
Comment: Recently purchased the upgrade download straight from Ulead's site (had an OEM key for Version 8 SE). The product is certainly more feature full than Windows Movie Maker and, consequently, complex in comparison. However, it's not as intimidating as, say, Vegas Movie Studio. I appreciate the multitude of format output options and the relatively strong ability to customize them. The DD 5.1 feature could be a bit more intuitive however. I've found that simply dragging the spatial icon around isn't enough to fully isolate channels, you need to play with levels as well, which I think is unnecessary.
One thing I have found, however, is fairly shoddy performance overall. I'm running Vista HP x32, Core2Quad (q6600) and 3GB ram, yet the program..."lags" for lack of a better word. Over time and use during a session the program just seems to become less and less responsive. I don't believe it's a memory leak because RAM usage seem in line; same goes with processor usage. So I don't know what the deal is.
I've toyed around with the trial of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum and it seems to provide much more solid performance. Though it lacks some convenience features of VS11.5+ (Burning HD video to standard DVD for example) it does seem to be a more pro-sumer product and offer more advanced features and abilities overall.

Summary: If you have a problem... good luck. Poor support
Comment: After reading all of the reviews and purchasing a Canon HG10 camcorder I purchased this product to make a college sports highlight film for my son. The computer I am using has Vista Ultimate and 2 gigs ram. After over 100 hours invested, the film was a flop. The high def film imported into this product had pixilation, and when the moment came to cut the DVD the software froze. The product also would not read film clips on an existing DVD.
I browsed through all of the online help, but my problem was not mentioned. After working hard to find out how to contact Corel, I finally found buried on their web site a phone number. Corel permits one call, and the result was some emails on how to fix the problem emailed to me. I applied the fixes as directed and nothing helped. To me, support is the most valuable thing a vendor has to offer. Poor support means poor product. End of story.

Summary: No AVCHD support
Comment: Don't buy this product if you plan to create AVCHD disks to play on Blu-Ray players.
I bought this product specifically to genereate AVCHD DVD's from my HD camcorder. The AVCHD disks are supposed to play on Blu-Ray disk players. They do not play on my Samsung BD-P1400. Their telephone tech support informed me that there was nothing that could be done to make it work. The AVCHD disks produced by Pannasonic and by Pinnacle play just fine on my player.
