Summary: Great
Comment: I'm no camera pro but I sure did research a lot before puchasing a digital camera. I really do love this camera. It is a great compact size and small enough to just stick in my purse or pocket. And a cute color! It takes great pictures outdoors. Nice and crisp and one of the greatest zoom features I have seen (compared to the canon's 3x).
My only hesitation about S550 is the quality of pictures indoors. I havent found the right setting, or one that I like well enough. Often times when I use the scene selection the picture will come out blurry because I'm not holding it still enough. Or the picture will come out yellowy or washed out. I'm sure it does take good pictures indoors, but I haven't found the right setting I like. And I'm sure it all depends on the light setting your in. I just need some more practice on it.
All in all I would recommend it!!

Summary: A lot of problems
Comment: Purchase around Mother's Day.
I decided to purchase the Nikon since I have a D50.
To summarize the problems:
Couple weeks after purchase the shutter would not close and the camera would not shut down without taking the battery out. The camera was in repair ( Best Buy) for a month.
Right after I got it back it would not read ANY memory card without taking the card in and out several times or at all. Plus the camera would not shut down again without taking the battery out.
Went back to Best Buy . Had the camera services for the memory card reader error and the shut down. The camera was in service for a month again. Just received the camera back yesterday and again the camera has a problem reading the memory card. So far it is shutting down.
Best Buy's policy is to bring the camera in 4 times before it is considered a lemon. No matter if it is the same problem. I am taking it back to Best Buy today.
Stay away from this camera. The pictures are not nice. My brother purchased a Cannon and it takes a lot better pictures and he has no problem with it.
Hope it helps.

Summary: great little camera
Comment: I wanted a pocket sized camera that could still have a good zoom and take good pics. This is it! It fits in my pocket and I can still take great snapshots. I have a Canon digital rebel that I use for artsy shots but this is great little camera for everything else.

Summary: Excellent & Simple
Comment: Been a Nikon owner before and was very satisfied.
The S550 delivers its promise, it's simple, effective and picture quality is great. No major flaws except may be for the battery cover which looks cheap and fragile.
Bought it for me wife and she seems to love using it.

Summary: Decent for a point-and-shoot
Comment: I needed a new camera to replace my failing 5 year old DSLR camera. I choose the nikon brand over others because of some choices that top end photographers have been making lately. I have to admit, that I wish I would have made a better decision. The photos from this camera seem to have unusually high noise. I probably would have rated higher, but I am extremely disappointed that this camera does not use a standard USB connection. Also, why can you not charge the battery via USB? These days, "Features" like this should be an automatic thing.
