Summary: It's a battery...it works...
Comment: It's the standard replacement battery for the Nikon D40 and D40x. Works just as designed. I will say that if you have a Nikon D40/x you should not have to worry about swapping batteries. I've been able to get a full day of shooting done on a single battery, although I do prefer the peace of mind of having a spare.

Summary: spare battery
Comment: Got to have a spare battery for your Nikon D40 when you are traveling as well as a spare memory card. This looks and is exactly the same battery that came with the D40. Since the D40 doesn't have live-view and a monitorized lense like a bridge SLR, these battery last forever, about 800-100 shots or more. But once in awhile the battery dies in a middle of a trip. Have no issues or battery fading yet (4 months).

Summary: Yes, you need a spare
Comment: Yes, you need a charged spare battery to protect you from Murphy's law. Keep the little white, plastic case it comes in to keep it from discharging in your camera bag.

Summary: Spare battery comes in handy!
Comment: I was in Australia recently where the current is 220 vs. 110 in NA. The battery in my camera ran out while I was taking pictures of Sydney. Thanks to its portability, I had an extra battery with me which saved the day. I had charged it at home, and I would have been hard pressed to charge it in Australia where you need a special adapter to convert the current to NA standards.
Customer Rating:

Summary: good, but expensive
Comment: This is a good, reliable battery that last a long time. However, it is expensive. Amazon does sell 3rd party compatible batteries for 1/2 or even 1/3 the price that seem to work just as well. Just search for "EN-EL9".
