Summary: A useful small camera
Comment: I use an FX format SLR and film cameras for more formal photography, so the Stylus 1010 was purchased for general family snapshot use. As an upgrade to older model Oylympus S350 and Canon S400 models, the S1010 represents a substantial improvement. The lens quality and focal length range is much more useful, pulling in far subjects with longer telephoto function and covering wider landscape and rooms with wide angle coverage. Flash output is higher, so there is much less light fall off when taking indoor shots. Both shadow and highlight range have improved with far greater detail.
Long delays between shots are gone, continous shooting is 4x faster and transfer of files to a PC is similarly improved. The view finder is bright and viewable in sunlight, controls are handy. The steady shot function is very effective in controlling camera shake in low light. 4GB of storage and long battery life are convenient.
Software features to me are gimicks that have little practical purpose and quickly lose their entertainment, need to fiddle, value. I can turn a camera on its end to change from landscape to portrait and I can pretty much tell when people are smiling. "Gimick" of course does not include improved exposure and contrast control with useful metering options that are included in the product.
The camera will not deliver high end SLR results, as it does not have the optical range or image sensor coverage and density to do so. But as a point and shoot casual camera that can handle a lot of use, it's a very good product.

Comment: This was an upgrade for me from another Olympus product. It is a wonderful little camera. Pictures are clear and crisp and the zoom is great. The only thing I can think to mention that may bother some people is that when you are filming videos, you can't toggle the zoom while the camera is running. You need to set the zoom where you want it and then start filming. I bought the 1010 kit and the microSDHC card allows you to film 30 minutes of video at a time (with lots of room left over on the card). An empty microSDHC card will allow for 1500 pictures. Great Buy!

Comment: This is my third digital camera dating back to 2001 and this is by far my favorite. The size is perfect for traveling and having around the house for those moments when you just want to snap a shot. The screen on the back is terrific and easy to see in almost all shooting conditions. The available light setting lets you go flash free in almost any conditions. Easy to use. Light. Great value.

Comment: This camera takes very good pictures. I have not yet found a camera that takes flawless pictures upon movement of people. It is a very nice size and of course, the purple color is great! The clarity is good. The user friendliness of the software for editing is about a 7 on a 1-10 scale. Good camera for the price.

Comment: I did a LOT of research before deciding on the Stylus 1010. I'm so glad I did. This camera does a fantastic job, and delivers crisp pictures with true to life colors almost every time. The only problem I had was focusing in low lighting conditions (but I wasn't suprised either time, since the light was so low). The focusing is quick and there is little lag time between shots. It's so nice and compact, and the view screen in the back is huge. I really like the creative features like black and white or sepia choices. It also has the ability to frame shots, or super impose messages like "Happy Birthday" or "Congratulations." It's really a great little camera that's fun to use. I bought the 2 GB card, which was really worth it. With the 10megabite images, the internal memory gets used up fast. The card really is a must. I ended up buying the camera from Amazon, and it was delivered before the anticipated date of delivery. I also bought accessory packages from Cameta Camera, which was delivered as ordered, and before the anticipated delivery date. Total buying experience was A+. Now other members of my family are so impressed with this camera that they're thinking about buying one. Run, don't walk to buy this camera if you like to take pictures!
