Summary: Typographic problems
Comment: I would give this book five stars, but it appears that it was printed with the wrong font, and many of the symbols in the code samples have been replaced by a small square. Although I usually can figure out what was intended, this does make the book harder to use.

Summary: Great Books
Comment: The Urroz 49 series Vols 1 & 2 are both great, full of little known tips and good programs. Volume 2 is excellent, among other things, for dynamics, vectors, multivariable calculus. For example, on page 112 there is a fine User RPL program of the Jacobian transformation for a double integral. There are also good explanations of the machine commands for solving differential equations and using LaPlace transforms. Since the HP 50g is essentially an updated 49, everything still applies to HP's newest machine. As these books are officially out of print, anyone who likes to use and program HP calcs should get both volumes while they can.

Summary: Just what the doctor ordered.
Comment: One of the reviewers above gave a pretty negative review citing that this material was covered elsewhere in the hp user manuals and on hp's own site. That may be true. What the other reviewer failed to mention was the fact that HP includes a very stripped down version of the 800+ page actual manual and this book, and it's sister volume, are a godsend. The calculator is easy enough for most utility, but these manuals quickly help you get down to doing your required operations much more easily. I can't recommend these books enough, as I've found them extremely helpful in the TI dominated environment of my College. I've got the HP-50g btw, thought I should mention that, as these manuals instructions cover this calc well enough.

Summary: Rehash of HP documentation and tutorials
Comment: I was hoping for lots of new sample programs, and new or more complex examples than what is available in the offical HP manuals. However, almost everything in this book is copied from existing HP documentation and promotional material. Most of the examples are verbatim copies of the stuff already in the HP manuals. Very little in the way of new code, or even new examples of using the builtin utilities and commands. If you have access to the .pdf versions of HP's manuals and tutorials (available at the HP calculator web site), you'll have 99% of what these two books have.

Summary: Helpful
Comment: This book has helped me out a lot through Calculus and DE courses. Detailed examples and everything you'd expect a good manual to have. It should be noted that HP has released an updated complete manual available only for download (800+ pages) that is a lot better than the original. In light of that, this book is not a nessesity but it's still nice to have for science applications.
