Summary: Great camera!
Comment: I got this camera as a gift nearly a year ago, and I've taken it all over the place, including in my pocket all around Europe. It has not let me down once. It takes good pictures and turns on quickly which is important when traveling. It's small enough to fit in your pocket and isn't bulky when put in a similar sized case. The only criticism I would have with this camera is that it can be somewhat sensitive to lighting conditions or can sometimes produce blurry pictures....but on the whole, I would recommend this camera as being a great point and shoot! It also takes decent video as well. I loved being able to select the blue color for the camera as opposed to the usual black or silver, which I thought was a nice feature that makes my camera unique, even from an aesthetic standpoint.

Summary: Noice cam but annying red lazer light
Comment: I got this camera for my girlfriend and she loves it. It's cute, small, and slick looking. And most of the photos taken with it look pretty good.
My one complaint with it though, is that when you hold down the button to take a picture it shines this red lazer light into the eyes of the people getting their picture taken and then it goes off...and then it snaps.
So not only do they have to squint and hold their pose but then the red light tricks them when it goes off and they start moving about just as the snap actually happens.

Summary: whoops, not what I thought
Comment: I must admit that after first purchasing this camera I thought it was a fairly good purchase, however after a recent trip to Disney World with the kids I have to express my new opinion and its not good. After our return home I attempted to print out some of our memories and found that the pictures, which looked wonderful on the viewfinder and on the computer, were of the poorest quality. We bought this camera to replace a cheap 3 mp Kodak easy shot, I wish I still had that camera. The kodak's printed shots far surpassed the Sony (both from the same printer). Needless to say we are in the market again for a new camera. Unfortunately one area you dont want to go wrong, especially with the kids, is with a camera.

Summary: Sony is trash!
Comment: Six months after purchasing this camera the lens fails to open leaving me with a $200.00 (more when you consider memory stick and case) piece of junk. Google "How to fix a stuck lens on a Sony DSC-W55" and you will see what a common problem this is. My advice is to steer clear of all Sony products as they appear to care little about quality.

Summary: So close to perfect !!
Comment: Love this camera! Great pictures, features and usability. The only [huge] problem is the battery pack and not being able to use basic AA batteries. Even with buying 2 battery packs and trying to always keep one charging, we are always running out of battery power at key times, and often the backup battery is not on hand. Missed a lot of great shots that way. Would be the PERFECT camera if you could just use AA batteries.
