The Unofficial Guide to Photoshop Elements 4 Reviews
Customer Rating:

Summary: Not for Mac owners
Comment: I understood this would be useful to Mac and Windows users but its not. Total waste of money.

Summary: A disappointment on two levels
Comment: Like the previous reviewer, I was frustrated to discover this is a PC-only book. It was only after some time looking through it and feeling puzzled that I figured this out. So I'm additionally annoyed that nowhere on the book's cover or in the sale description is this Windows-only bias mentioned. It's a nice big book - I'm sure it contains useful information. Unfortunately, Mac owners cannot really utilize it. I've since bought Barry Beckham's "The Digital Photographer's Guide To Photoshop Elements 4", and can attest it is informative, understandable and usable by PC and Mac owners.

Summary: Don't buy if you use a Mac
Comment: Nowhere in this book does it reference that these instructions are for Windows machines only. I use only Apple Mac computers. I'm sure I can get some benefit from this book but it won't be easy. Most books written for programs that are used on both platforms usually have sidebars or other ways to point out where directions change from one platform to the other.

Summary: A good reference guide
Comment: I would buy it again. I wish the pictures were in color, of course I guess that's why the book isn't very expensive. I wanted a good reference manual and I think I got it.

Summary: Cheap, practical, all you need to develop your skills!
Comment: If you never used Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 before, this book is THE reference to get on the program in a couple of hours.
Donna Baker's writing style is very clear;all the tecnical terms are explained for the novice & intermediate user, the book is full of time saving techniques-hacks-bright ideas-inside scoops and watch out graphic icons, the expert sits next to you on the table!
In 761 pages, you'll learn it all from chapter 1 First you find some images(page 1-88)then image editing 101(page 89-238);pick what you work with(page 239-358)all about selecting & layers;not so basic image editing (page 359-421)manually correcting images & retouching magic;from an image to work art (page 423-574),filters,text,brushes & patterns;now that the images look great(page 575-710)printing,creations,slide shows ,panoramic images, managing image distribution, cooking with raw images.
The fact that all the photos & pictures in the book are in black & white isn't an handicap and explains the cheap price of the book.
In my collection of more than 30 PS books this is one of the best and Donna Baker joins for me the level of the great 'gurus' in Photoshop.Well done;beginners and intermediate users run to buy it!!!
